How does train stop after pulling the Chain...???

The alarm chain is a safety device for bringing a moving train to stop in a case of an emergency.

# It can be operated by a passenger. It sets into action air brakes which bring the train to a halt without the driver’s intervention. The system is made up of a compressor in the engine which supplies compressed air to the main air reservoir from which a main brake pipes runs through all the compartments of the train...The compressor also supplies air to auxiliary air reservoirs attached to each brake unit...!!

# Normally a valve piston in each brake unit prevents compressed air from reaching the brake cylinder, thus keeping the brake shoe off the wheels. But when the alarm chain is pulled, it vents the main brake pipe. The sudden drop in pressure lifts the valve piston allowing compressed air from the auxiliary cylinder to push the brake piston and jam the brakes against the wheels bringing the train to a stop...!!
