Mahatma Gandhi not Father of Nation: PMO in RTI reply:-
In a shocking reply given to 10 year old girl the Prime Minister Office (PMO) has said it does not posses any records stating Mahatma Gandhi as “The Father of Nation”. Also PMO has s
aid that Republic day, Independece day and Gandhi Jayanti are not declaired national holidays.
Giving reply to RTI query of 10-year-old Aishwarya Parashar from Lucknow who reportedly surprised the PMO for the exact order that titled Mahatma Gandhi as 'The Father of The Nation’, PMO has given this information.
Aishwarya, who is a student of Lucknow´s City Montessori School, wrote to the PMO in February and asked for a photocopy of the government order that had conferred the title to Mahatma Gandhi.
From the PMO, the application was forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs. Central Home Ministry director and Public Relation officer Shyamala Mohan sent official reply to Aishwarya’s RTI application on May 17.
The answer clearly states that the PMO does not posses any record in connection to the matter and referred it to MHA and then to the National Archives of India (NAI).
Aishwarya was invited to visit the department to undertake a detailed search among the public records and library material for the desired information.
"As per the guidelines laid down by the DOPT the duty of the CPIO is only to make available the records for consultation and not undertake any research on behalf of the application," assistant director of archives Jayaprabha Ravichandran said.
"You are therefore most welcome to visit the department to undertake a detailed search among the public records and library material for the desired information," he added..
